As of Sunday, March 15th, 2020 our local meetings at Alcott Center stopped. In their place we are focusing on bringing you news and updates about the coronavirus, local (weather permitting) and online activities, local information and resources, informative and motivational speakers, some cheerful songs and hopefully a little humor and motivation.
Please go to our blog to enjoy the information we share, sign up for our email list or join in on our
weekly Zoom meetings. Note: Starting on June 2, 2021 meetings will be every other Thursday at 10:00 AM. Click here for the blog. Check our calendar page of upcoming meetings and fun activities gathered by Judy.
Learn more about the founders (Judy and Michael) and read our new Mission Statement and Five-Minute Plan on our About page.
I have removed some of the former pages (which are not applicable during sheltering in place) from this site’s navigation menu and hope to return them in the near future. Happy trails to you, until we meet again face-to-face.
Stay Healthy, Stay Safe!
Get vaccinated, wear your masks and face shields, maintain your social distancing, avoid large gatherings, wash your hands, determine your risk tolerance and know this too shall pass.
MikeY – Below is our slightly edited original message and goals…
Retired, Semi-Retired or Soon to Retire in the Greater Buffalo Grove Area (and beyond)?
Planning or adjusting to retirement after an active working life is challenging for most.
This group was formed to discuss issues and to share information and knowledge about retirement. We will lend each other support to overcome some of the challenges we face as we seek out new opportunities. These may include finding new purpose and meaning, setting new goals or tackling topics such as exercise, health, bucket lists, etc.
See a list of Zoom upcoming meetings and (mostly online) events. Guest speakers are now scheduled at almost every weekly Zoom meeting to discuss pertinent topics or to share local updates.
We do promise to avoid discussing finances, politics and religion (and sex).
We’ll also have some fun and plan social events together (when and if things return to normal) such as seeing movies, summer concerts, walking together, visiting local attractions and events, etc. See a list of upcoming area social events. We still have some volunteer opportunities and special interest sub-groups!
Read interesting articles, summations of past meetings and social events on our blog.
More diversity has been added over the years based on the interests of group members. We have added presentations, movie discussions, trivia contests, karaoke and sing-alongs, podcasts and more. We celebrated Thanksgiving, Christmas eve and New Year’s eve on Zoom. We did, and will resume doing in the spring, driveway chats, socially distanced outdoor dining and attending concerts.
So please join us if you’re interested in enjoying your new freedom, exploring your future and making new friends with like-minded people or if you just need a reason to attend yet another Zoom meeting and discussion. We now meet weekly on Zoom at 10:00 AM every Thursday. There are no fees to attend our meetings.
We do strongly suggest you sign up for our mailing list to notify you of our blogs and meetings. Please use our Contact form.
